How to feel confident in front of the camera for your wedding photos.

Writer: Toby LidstoneToby Lidstone

Beautiful wedding photos that preserve the memory of your special day is a priority for couples who are planning their wedding day. But wondering if they will feel confident in front of the camera is something many worry about ahead of the big day. Here, I share some of my top tips to ensure you look and feel your best in every photo.

Engagement shoot

One of the best ways to feel confident in front of the camera is by having a pre-wedding photoshoot. An engagement shoot gives you the chance to practice posing, get familiar with your photographer, and ease any nerves about the camera being on you.

Research Wedding Photos

Spend some time researching wedding photos to decide on the types of images and poses you like. Look for inspiration for intimate couple’s portraits or fun wedding party pics. Knowing what you like will help guide your photographer and set the tone for your photos.

Shot List

Create a list of the group shots you’d like to have captured to save you time and stress on the day. Choose no more than 10 different groups to avoid feeling overwhelmed and follow the list to make your photography session seamless and efficient, giving you more time to party!

Allocate an Assistant

To make your group shots run smoothly, allocate someone from your wedding party to help. Choose someone who knows most of your guests, as this person will be responsible for rounding up the right people for each picture to avoid unnecessary delays.

In Good Time

When creating an order of the day, allow ample time for your photographs. Group shots and newlywed sessions typically take place during the welcome reception. If possible, leave some time after the wedding breakfast for more relaxed evening or sunset shots as a couple, too. The more time you allocate, the less rushed and more natural your photos will be.

Perfect Poses

Throughout your engagement, practice smiling naturally for the camera and work with your partner on specific shots you want to capture, such as a romantic dip-kiss.

Remain Flexible

Things might not always go exactly to plan—timelines may shift and the weather may change at the last minute. By staying calm and open-minded, you ensure the day runs smoothly despite any hiccups. This relaxed mindset will translate into more natural and joyful photographs.

Trust your Photographer

You hired a professional for a reason, so trust their expertise. Put your faith in their guidance and recommendations. The more you trust your photographer, the more relaxed you’ll feel and it will show in your photos.

Enjoy your Day!

The most important tip of all – enjoy your day! The best photos are the ones that capture authentic moments of laughter and love. When you’re genuinely having a good time, it shines through in the images.
